Dance Dim Sum

May 4, 2025 from 11:30am - 12:30pm

Left of Main (211 Keefer St, Vancouver)

  •

We are thrilled to kick off Asian Heritage Month 2025 with a community gathering and sharing of new works-in-progress at Left of Main in Vancouver’s Historic Chinatown. JL² (Jia Yi (Judy) Luo and Juolin Lee) will be sharing some of their work and shared process, and Judy and Andrea will be sharing an excerpt of their new work 田天 tiántiān, created in collaboration with choreographer Sarah Chase.

There will be tea, snacks, and a chance to connect in community – and dance dim sum!

More about the works:

JL²: Formation explores how the intersection of cultural upbringing, physical training, spiritual formation and geographic location impact the expression of the body.

田天 tiántiān is a new dance work featuring two generations of deeply realized Chinese Canadian dancers who move in unusual synchronized harmony. 田天 tiántiān is created and performed by Jia Yi (Judy) Luo and Andrea Nann in collaboration with choreographer Sarah Chase.

It is our intent that everyone feels invited, wanted, and welcomed to participate in our events and activities. We continue to do the work to listen, learn, unlearn, and relearn in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement, and in recognition of all past and present atrocities, persecution and mistreatment of people based on their ethnicity, culture, place of origin, race, ancestry, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical appearance, and/or (dis)ability.   We stand in solidarity with all who are facing or have faced persecution or discrimination, and are working to create a supportive, safe and equitable world.

We are honoured to live, work and create in Toronto/Tkaronto on Dish With One Spoon Indigenous Territory and acknowledge the Land as Traditional Territory of many Nations including the Haudenosaunee, the Anishnabeg, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, and the Wendat Peoples.
