Skin and Skin: Workshop by Su PinWen
Saturday January 25
1:30pm - 5:30pm
Morrow (#204 - 910 Richards Street, Vancouver)
“Tactility, Skin, and Sensory Touch. In this workshop, I will share my practice that began with tactility in 2013, expanding into the study of skin experiences, with one of the key focuses on tactility and touch as artistic practice. This workshop invites a live dialogue between skin and skin, exploring non-visual, body-centered methods, while responding to feminism’s critique of the 'gaze.' We will reconsider alternative ways in which the artist can serve social significance beyond the typical role of being a medium for dance or performance—healing.”
This workshop is more suitable for artists with experience in body performance, including art students. The process may trigger discussions related to feminism, gender, race, and culture, thus requiring participants to be sensitive and inclusive regarding body politics.
Artist Talk with Su PinWen
Sunday January 26
3:00pm - 4:30pm
Morrow (#204 - 910 Richards Street, Vancouver)
Join us for an Artist Talk with Su PinWen in conversation with Michael Caldwell, artistic director of SummerWorks – discussing themes from PinWen’s work (including feminism and challenging heteronormativity) and learning more about PinWen’s creative practice, and what work looks like for him in Taiwan. We will also have a chance to engage in a shared dialogue around performance art and its capacity for activism, self-connection and queer expression.
SU PinWen is a Feminism Artist. Artistic Director of KuaBo Dance Theatre and residency at Chiayi Performing Arts Center. SU holds a MFA in Choreography at Taipei National University of the Arts and Bachelor in Philosophy at NanHua University. SU’s work challenges the heteronormative revolving around notions of gender, feminism and nudity. Since 2013, SU’s researched and practiced tactile culture. They take dance into conceptual art beyond the esthetic genre.
As part of our International Choreographic Interlink, Dreamwalker is so delighted to collaborate with Odd Meridian Arts to support both of these events.
